Jack Buchanan found his way into directing and writing through making short-form comedy content for people with short attention spans via YouTube and social media.

He is probably best known for Family Lockdown Boogie, the award-winning dance video he made with his (incredibly groovy) family during New Zealand’s COVID-19 lockdown that captured the zeitgeist. The film went viral, with over 15 million views worldwide. Roughly 1 million of those views are his Mum - but still, that’s pretty good.

With a keen sense for rhythm and timing, Jack is highly skilled at finding comedy in the mundane. His extensive work in theatre has also set him up with an excellent understanding of how to work with actors and communicate with talent.

Other work includes ‘Two Ticks’ for Re: and the NZ Electoral Commission, ‘Welcome to the Kitchen’ for New World, two seasons of the political satire ‘Flat Race’, and ‘Fuck Off 2020’ - an anthem to mark the end of the worst year imaginable.  

Jack writes and directs all his own work, often featuring original music that he composes and records in his home studio.
